Port Charlotte is an unincorporated community of about 60,000 people in Charlotte County, and it is where Rock Solid LVP is based. LVP flooring installation in Port Charlotte is not a trip out of town for us — it is a ten-minute drive. That matters when you want an estimate this week rather than next month, and it matters even more if you ever need us back for a repair plank or an added room.

Much of Port Charlotte was laid out by General Development Corporation beginning in the late 1950s, and a huge share of the housing stock dates from the 1960s through the 1980s: single-story concrete block homes on slab foundations, many of them sitting along the community's roughly 165 miles of canals. They share a few traits that shape how vinyl plank should be installed.

What We See in Port Charlotte Homes

• Terrazzo under the carpet. Pull up bedroom carpet in an older home off Harbor Boulevard or Midway Boulevard and there is a good chance of finding original terrazzo. It makes an excellent base for floating rigid core plank once the tack strip holes are patched.
• Slabs without a vapor barrier. Homes from that era were often poured directly on fill. Near the canals especially, slab moisture runs high in the rainy season, so we test before choosing between a floating floor with a poly barrier and a glue-down system with mitigation.
• Additions and enclosed lanais. Many homes have had a lanai enclosed and air conditioned over the years. The joint where the original slab meets the addition slab is almost never flush, and it needs grinding and feathering before plank can cross it.
• Storm history. Between Hurricane Charley in 2004 and Hurricane Ian in 2022, a lot of Port Charlotte floors have been wet at least once. We regularly replace swollen laminate and mildewed carpet with waterproof vinyl plank that will not mind the next wind-driven rain under a slider.

We also cover Gulf Cove and South Gulf Cove out toward the Myakka River, where newer construction generally means cleaner slabs but larger open floor plans with longer plank runs to keep straight.

The most common request we get locally is replacing bedroom carpet while keeping the tile in the main living area. We set a neat transition at each bedroom door, or, when the tile is flat and solid, float the same plank right over it for one continuous floor. The second most common is the full refresh of a recently purchased home — new owners who want the dated flooring gone before the furniture arrives.
