Carpet and Florida were never a great match. It traps humidity, holds onto sand and pet dander, shows every traffic lane, and starts to smell musty in a house that is closed up for the summer. Replacing carpet with LVP is the single most common project we do, and it changes how a home looks, feels, and even smells in a matter of days.

What's Hiding Under the Carpet

Every carpet removal is a small reveal, and the slab underneath determines the next step. After decades of doing this, there is not much that surprises us:

• Tack strip holes and chipped edges — concrete nails leave craters around the entire perimeter of the room. We patch them so the plank edge has solid, flat support.
• Terrazzo — common in older Port Charlotte, Venice, and Sarasota homes. If it is sound and flat, rigid core LVP floats over it beautifully. Some customers see it and decide to polish it instead, and we will tell you honestly if yours is worth saving.
• Paint overspray, drywall mud, and pad adhesive — builders rarely protect a slab that is about to be carpeted. We scrape and clean it so nothing telegraphs through.
• Slab cracks — hairline shrinkage cracks are normal and get filled. Cracks with height difference across them get ground flush and evaluated.
• Pet stains — urine soaks through pad into concrete. We treat and seal contaminated areas so the odor does not come back on humid days.
• Humps and dips — carpet hides a wavy slab very well. Plank does not. We check flatness with a straightedge and correct it before installing.

How a Carpet-to-LVP Project Runs

On day one we move furniture, cut the carpet into manageable strips, roll and remove it along with the pad, pull every piece of tack strip, and scrape the slab. Prep work — patching, grinding, and leveling — usually happens the same day or the next morning. Then the plank goes down room by room, starting from the longest straight wall so the lines stay true through doorways and down hallways. Baseboards or quarter-round finish the edges, transitions go in where the new floor meets tile, and furniture goes back. Most three-bedroom carpet replacements are complete in two to four days, and you can keep living in the house while we work.

Running One Floor Through the Whole House

A lot of local homes have tile in the main living area and carpet in the bedrooms. You have two good options. We can install LVP only in the carpeted rooms and set clean transitions at each doorway where plank meets tile. Or, if the existing tile is flat and well bonded, we can float the same vinyl plank over the tile too, giving you one continuous floor from the front door to the back bedroom with no demolition dust. We will measure the height differences at doors and sliders during the estimate and tell you whether that approach works in your home.

Bedrooms, Stairs, and Closets

We carry the plank into closets so there is no leftover carpet hiding behind a door. For two-story homes and townhomes, carpeted stairs can be converted as well, using matching stair nose pieces glued and fastened on each tread for a safe, solid edge. Stairs are slower, more detailed work than open floor, and we quote them separately so the pricing is clear.

Better for Allergies, Pets, and Rentals

With carpet gone, there is nowhere for dust, dander, and sand to hide. A vinyl plank floor cleans up with a dust mop and a damp microfiber pad. Landlords and property managers like it for a different reason: a 20 mil wear layer plank outlasts several rounds of tenants, and turnover cleaning takes minutes instead of a carpet-cleaning appointment and a prayer.
