Luxury Vinyl Plank Installation, Start to Finish

Rock Solid LVP installs luxury vinyl plank flooring in homes, condos, and rentals across Port Charlotte and the surrounding Southwest Florida area. LVP flooring installation is all we do on this side of the business, and it shows in the details: planks that run straight down a long hallway, end joints that are staggered properly instead of stair-stepping, door jambs undercut so the plank slides underneath, and transitions that sit flush where the vinyl meets tile or a sliding door track.

Most of the flooring in this part of Florida sits on a concrete slab, and that slab decides how good the finished floor looks. Before a single plank goes down, we check the slab for flatness and moisture, scrape off old adhesive or thinset, fill the low spots, and grind the high ones. Click-lock vinyl plank is forgiving, but it is not magic — a locking joint laid over a hump will eventually separate or click underfoot. Doing the prep is the difference between an installation that looks great for a month and one that looks great for years.

Click-Lock vs. Glue-Down LVP

There are two main ways to install luxury vinyl plank, and we do both. The right choice depends on the room, the product, and how the space is used.

• Floating click-lock LVP — the planks lock to each other and float over the slab with an expansion gap at the walls. Most rigid-core (SPC and WPC) products install this way. It is fast, clean, comfortable underfoot, and ideal for bedrooms, living areas, and whole-home installs.
• Glue-down LVP — thinner, flexible planks bonded directly to the slab with pressure-sensitive adhesive. Glue-down is the better choice for rooms with heavy rolling loads, commercial-style traffic, or large sun-exposed areas next to sliding glass doors where a floating floor can expand and push against itself.

During the estimate we look at the room, the amount of direct sun, and the product you have in mind, and we tell you plainly which method suits it.

Choosing a Plank That Will Last

Not all vinyl plank is equal, and the price tag does not always tell the story. The three things we tell every customer to look at are the wear layer, the core, and the locking system. A 12 mil wear layer is fine for a guest room; 20 mil or better is what we recommend for main living areas, homes with large dogs, and rentals. An SPC (stone-plastic composite) core is denser and more stable in heat than WPC, which matters next to west-facing sliders. And a well-machined locking profile is what keeps end joints tight over time.
